Don’t judge me, but I bought this week’s Us Weekly so I could read the Tiddles Proposal story. Us Weekly put part of their cover story online on Wednesday, which I already covered. But as I imagined, the full cover story had more deliciously cringey details. And before you say “Oh, Us Weekly doesn’t know anything,” please keep in mind that Taylor does have a history of running to Us Weekly specifically to dish on boyfriends and ex-boyfriends. After Jake Gyllenhaal dumped her, Taylor basically told her entire story to Us Weekly (under the guise of a “friend”) and Us Weekly published it. So, beyond what we’ve already heard – that Tom is thinking about proposing – what else does Us Weekly say? Some highlights from the cover story:
Tom is Prince Charming: “He’s so romantic, classic and chivalrous, and he’s doing everything right,” says a Swift source. “Taylor’s totally into him. She is so swept off her feet.”
Tom is “flying high.” A friend says: “Tom usually takes relationships so slow. He’s on this crazy, fun roller coaster ride and hasn’t stopped for a moment to look around.”
Introducing Tay to his family. “This is the first time he’s brought a girl home so quickly.”
Rushing to buy the ring? The friend says, “I wouldn’t be surprised if he just did it on a whim. Everything else so far has been random and spontaneous.” He’s been telling pals that he sees a future with Swift too: “He’s talked about all of it: marriage and kids.”
They’ve already talked about it. A Swift source tells Us Weekly, “Tom has discussed proposing with Taylor. And she has hinted that she’s interested. She wants marriage and they both want kids. She sees a lot of future potential with Tom.”
But there’s no rush. “There are no plans to rush an engagement. She would be slow to get married, for financial reasons.”
Taylor’s parents approve. “Taylor’s parents love Tom. They think he’s a really great stand-up guy and a gave him a big stamp of approval.”
Taylor is crazy in love. “She is so enamored with him and thinks he’s perfect, She gushes about how smart and funny and charming and handsome he is. It really is like being in a romance movie. She says it’s the first time she’s been this free in a while and she is insanely happy to be falling in love with someone while she is totally free to focus on it.”

I do think it’s interesting that Taylor is “free” right now, work-wise, and I think that might explain why everything seems so EXTRA with Tiddles. She’s not touring, she’s not promoting an album, she’s not doing press. So she’s focusing all of her energy into her new relationship. She’s bringing that single-minded devotion (the devotion she uses for her career) to her love life. And yes, I imagine it is exhausting. While her parents might like Tom, I do think that note of reality is quite accurate: Taylor has some faults, but she is VERY smart about her money. She might rush into a full-blown Tiddlebanging, but chica is not going to get married without an iron-clad prenup, no matter what.
Meanwhile, did you guys read this absolutely amazing Fox News op-ed? Taylor Swift was 11 years old when she costarred in a school musical, Bye Bye Birdie, with a 14-year-old named Cody Derespina. Cody wrote an essay about how Swifty was an 11-year-old Mean Girl who hated to share the spotlight with him. According to Cody, Taylor once “ripped down a series of pictures of me, crumpled them and threw them against a wall.” Cody says that he is absolutely Team Calvin.
