Prashanth Neel Facts
Prashanth’s route to the entertainment industry was rather unconventional and quirky. He revealed in an interview that he initially took to filmmaking just for monetary gains and only later completed a course in filmmaking during which he became hooked to the craft. After the completion of this course, he cast Sriimurali (his brother-in-law) in a project titled Aa Hudugi Neene, a screenplay that he had written. However, Sriimurali was concerned about the viability of the project due to Prashanth’s inexperience. He subsequently dropped the project and later, came up with another script. Sriimurali starred in that action thriller film titled Ugramm which turned out to be a commercial blockbuster. In August 2015, at the 4th edition of the SIIMA (South Indian International Movie Awards), Prashanth won in the category of ‘Best Debutant Director (Kannada)’ for Ugramm (2014).In August 2019, at the 8th edition of the South Indian International Movie Awards, he won in the category of ‘Best Director (Kannada)’ for K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018).The sequel to this runaway superhit, titled KGF: Chapter 2, was scheduled for a theatrical release in July 2021 but had to be delayed because of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. It was eventually released in April 2022 and became the 4th-highest-grossing Indian film of all time (as of April 2023).As of April 2023, Prashanth was shooting his 4th film, an action thriller titled Salaar – his directorial debut in his native Telugu language. He was born in a Telugu family (Telugus are an ethnolinguistic group that speaks the Telugu language and native to the southern Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) that lives in Karnataka (a neighboring state of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where Kannada is predominantly spoken).Prashanth was also set to begin the production of an untitled venture in April 2023 which would be the 31st film of the acting career of Jr. NTR, a superstar of Telugu cinema.Prashanth is a distant relative of Raghu Veera Reddy, a politician who was a member of the state legislative assembly of Andhra Pradesh from 1989 until 2009 – representing the Madakasira constituency. Prashanth’s family hails from Neelakantapuram, a village near Madakasira, a town in the Sri Satya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh.Featured Image by Likhitha Reddy / Instagram
