According to a report from Billboard.com, Kanye West’s faith-based record, Jesus Is King, broke records this past weekend on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs as well as the Hot Gospel Song charts. His first religious album, Jesus Is King, is one of the biggest records of all time in terms of faith-based albums, especially on the two aforementioned charts.
In its first week, which ended on the 31st of October, Kanye’s new record hit number one on the Top Christian Albums as well as the Top Gospel Albums, earning 264,000 equivalent sales in total, claims Nielsen Music.
Furthermore, it’s now sitting atop the Billboard 200, the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, the Top Rap Albums, as well as the other two charts. It’s going to be the first record ever to rule all of the aforementioned charts.
This makes West a record-breaker in yet another way, considering he was able to top the Top 10 on Hot Christian Songs as well as Hot Gospel Songs. Similar to other ranking systems, the two charts, which were started back in 2003 and 2005, count sales, airplay, and streaming data.

Jesus Is King has also taken nearly every spot on the Hot Gospel Songs as well. Some of the other artists to be on top of these charts including Chris Tomlin, Mercy Me, Casting Crowns, as well as Jordan Smith. Initially, due to Kanye’s controversial marketing style, fans weren’t entirely convinced he would be making gospel music as he had previously stated.
Insiders who spoke with multiple publications stated that the rapper wouldn’t be performing traditional rap music any more, and instead, would be making gospel music only. Moreover, sources stated he wouldn’t be performing his old songs either unless he changed the lyrics to fit his new outlook.
Last year, Kanye sparked even more controversy for supporting the president, Donald Trump, which sparked the ire of nearly everybody in the entertainment industry, especially in the hip-hop and the black community.

Kanye even appeared on TMZ Live as well as Saturday Night Live to explain why he was supporting the Republicans.
