Floyd Mayweather unintentionally hijacked a press conference meant for his protégé on Saturday night.
Curmel Moton, who is just 17 years old and one of the USA’s best young talents, made his professional debut on the Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs Jermell Charlo card.
Moton was far too good for his opponent Ezequiel Flores as expected and knocked him out in the first round – but no one got to see the fight as it took place after the main event.
The youngster got his chance to shine post-fight as reporters gathered backstage at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to hear him speak.
However, his boxing legend promoter quickly made things about him.
“I was the same young fighter before, and I had a dream,” Mayweather said.

“All these guys for years said, ‘Oh, this is the guy who is going to beat Floyd.’ And I proved them all wrong. Stephen [Espinoza], I want to say thank you for just believing me. When no one else believed in me you guys believed in me.
‘Money’ went on to discuss how much he made during his career, the importance of his impregnable defence, and growing up in poverty before shouting out his uncle’s YouTube page.
Mayweather stepped away from the mic to give Moton his moment in the spotlight before ushering him out of the way when a journalist referred to him as ‘arguably one of the greatest of all time.’
He interjected: “What are we rating ourselves on?

The reporter agreed with everything Mayweather said and ultimately rephrased his question to refer to the five-weight world champion as ‘the greatest of all time.’
Mayweather has refused to step away from the spotlight since retiring in 2017.
The 46-year-old is still competing in exhibition bouts. He has taken part in seven fights with novice boxers or social media celebrities.
Mayweather shows no sign of slowing down after his last exhibition against John Gotti III, who is the grandson of one of America’s most famous gangsters, ended in a post-fight brawl.
‘The Best Ever’ is expected to return to the ring before 2023 is done.
